A large play area built around the theme of a castle

The structure here is built with the same timbers you will see on any of our decks. We always put safety first and use both yours and your childrens ideas when we are planning.

The main castle is approx imately 1.5m square and a similar height. The roof is ply boards with felt making the roof completely sealed. There are 2 ramps with a climbing rope and also climbing holds. To the centre we have built steps for the younger ones.

The rickety bridge is built using 38mm manila rope and decking boards bolted through the rope.

The sunken sandpit has a hinged lid which can be bolted back to avoid any nasty accidents and the sand can come in almost any colour. Once the lid is closed this can be walked over or used for a table and chairs.

The monkey bars lead from the raised castle platform to the lower sandpit platform. The maximum fall height at any point is 750mm high.

A view up the monkey bars.

A play structure this size would cost somewhere in the region of £5000. This was completely finished in a timber decking floor as to a barked area. The timbers used come with a 15 year guarantee and are built to the same spec you would find in you local park.

The area underneath can be used for storage or could have sides for an underground play area.

A barked play area in Thatcham

This barked play area was originally a boggy area to this garden. We have rotovated and levelled the area. We have laid sand with in the soil to help with drainage. The bark used is a rubber immitation bark which does not rot down and no need for turning once a fortnight. The rubber bark is heavier which means is less likely to move around under foot. The fall height for rubber bark is approximately 100mm to every 300mm of chipped bark. This play area has a sunken sandpit with orange sand. A timber edging using a 50mm round timber concreted in to the ground. A timber swing and an area for which free standing slides, see-saws, tables can be used.
