Decking

Just bringing the materials in to the garden was a days work for 2 people.

The original patio was crumbling in places and not quite large enough for a good size table and chairs.

The frame is built and half way through laying the deck boards.

The completed project totalling approx 110sq m.

A view from the lower lawn. The space under the decking will be used for storage of logs.

The sweeping steps built over the original patio steps. On each balustrade post throughout the decking we have installed blue LED lights.

These steps have brick lights usually used in garden walls. The lower deck was built by the previous owner and we have cleaned re treated this to match the new decking.

A curved deck in Thatcham, Berkshire

An average size deck suitable for a good size table and chairs. We have curved the front edge of the deck as the garden is square.

A large curved deck in Newbury

This large curved deck has been built over an existing patio. The original patio was not the perfect base to work from as we used various size timbers to build th frame. In some areas we used 50mm x 100mm, 50mm x 50mm and also 25mm x 50mm battens fixed in to the concrete.

It would have been a huge job to remove the concrete and expensive. The deck runs along 2 sides of the property and we have laid the deck boards opposite where the deck meets the corner.

A view from the rear of the garden. The trellis to the right of the picture was also installed by FE Decking.

Decking in Purley on Thames.

This deck was constructed over an existing patio. We try to avoid taking out patios and walls where we can to save our customers money. The beauty of decking is that it can be constructed over existing ground surfaces.

2 Decks for Friar Homes in High Wycombe

We have built 2 identical decks on these brand new homes in High Wycombe.

Both properties were built with very high standards of workmanship. The decking worked extremely well on these houses as it was no different from being another room in the house.

The gardens had a slight gradient running right to left but Friar Homes built up the ground levels and compacted them before work started.

A raised deck in Newbury

This raised deck in Newbury wasbuilt for 2 reasons. The first being an extension of the kitchen and the second for our customers art classes. The decking overlooks woodlands, fields and gardens.

Split level deck in Thatcham

This decking project in Thatcham had to be excavated prior to buld the 2 decks. Approximately 8 tonne of soil was removed by hand.
Small black domed lights were installed around the decking and crosshatch balustrade.

Large steps in Newbury

After the conservatory was built our customers were left with a sloping garden and 1m drop from the conservatory doors. We have built large steps that cascade down the garden.

We have installed a simple post and rail style balustrade and boxed in the large brick built planters.

A nice size decking area with standard vertical spindle balustrade.

Decking near Pangbourne

We have constructed 2 decks in this garden. One leading from the conservatory to the lawn and a larger deck for table and chairs.

A long cuved path way

This path way from start to finish was approximately 30m in length.

The pathway leads from the back door, on to the main deck, summer house, shed and top garden.

Large decking in Newbury

The decking here covers a completely unusable part of the garden. Sloping and overgrown. Now our customers have a large level area for entertaining and a safe area for children to play.

Decking and Pergola in Mortimer, Reading

This deck is just part of the landscaped garden that FE Decking constructed. Her we have a triangular shaped deck with a fanned pergola. The pergola is raised towards the front.

Decking in Thatcham

An average size deck with bollard style lighting.

Decking Newbury

The lawn in this garden struggled due to the large oak trees around. We have constructed 2 decks and a barked area.

Decking walkway and steps in Hermitage

Once A Thompson builders had completed the extension we built the decking walkway and steps so that the extension could be signed off by the Building Inspector. We tried to match the existing decking as best we can.

A curved deck near Basingstoke

The decking in the photo was constructed by mirror imaging the curved wall and built around the existing pergola.

Raised decking in Newbury

The patio here was on its last legs and was becoming dangerous. We have extended over the original wall giving our customers a really good size outdoor room.

We have installed balustrade around the outside of the decking and wide steps with hand rails to the lawn. The plan is to extend the decking across the remaining patio at a later date.

A first floor decking balcony

The balcony required planning permission, architect, engineer and us.

Once the holes are dug these are inspected by building control before the next stage can start.
Another inspection once the frame work is complete and the final inspection on completion.

All the timbers were stained a number of times by our customer. We were requested to wear slip on shoe covers and gloves at all times. Well worth it for the tea and biscuits.

Large decking project in Kintbury

A before photo looking over the pool which we later install paving round, build a large deck to the right and a large deck with gazebo to the left to be constructed.

This area will be a fairly large deck to the right with a large patio in the middle and very large deck to the left.

The slope here was very boggy and we had to construct a 6m octagonal deck and Gazebo.

The frame has been constructed after over 40 x 1m deep holes were dug and concreted.

The deck boards are on, the gazebo frame and roof is on. Just windows, doors and trellis fascia to go.

Windows are being build and doors going in.

Roof construction from underneath

The finished product.

Double ddors to the front, immitation slate roof and 16 windows.

The last job was to enclose the underneath of the deck to stop kids, and animals going under the deck.

The frame is built to the largest of the decks in this garden.

Deck boards are carried in and starting to to be fixed to the frame.

Most of the boards are now fixed. Cutting off the front next.

The deck is complete

Hand rails run down the existing steps and balustrade around all edges of the deck.

A seating area was constructed under one end of the raised deck.

A view from the far end. We had to construct a seperate landing and stairs as the steps underneath were far to narrow for kids to use.

The opposite end of the decking. There is a patio area between the two decks. Trellis fascia encloses all the sides of the deck to stop the kids getting underneath.

Decking with sunken Pool in Newbury

The deck here caused a number of problems when we uncovered a 2.8m diameter Douglas Fir stump. This is the before photos of the area.

The grass had grown over the stump and no one was to know about it being here.

We excavated the hole for the pool and everything was fine until the next picture.

The excavater doesn't even cover the stump. The pool size had to be changed and we designed the deck to span over the stump.

The frame is complete and the stump gone.

The completed deck with dome over the pool.

Raised Decking in Basingstoke

The garden was very difficult to look after and use as the steep bank outside the door was very impractible.

The frame is being constructed.
